The legend of the Guardian bell – These little bells, known in the motorcycling & Trike world as Guardian Bells, Spirit Bells, or even gremlin bells are a kind of good luck charm for Motorcycle & Trike riders. The bell is said to protect them during their travels, similar to how a pendant or image of St. Christopher, the patron saint of travelers, is often carried in vehicles to protect their occupants while on the road.
Legend tells of how these little bells protect and continue to be used today.
There are a couple of stories, but the most plausible is as follow:
In a use similar to that of a dead bell at funerals, a “Guardian Bell” or “Spirit Bell” was sometimes used by British & American pilots in world war II, to ward off evil spirits. When the pilots returned home, many of them continued its use it as a good luck protection charm when riding a motorcycle. A bit like a St. Christopher charm.
Rules of the Bell:

  1. The bell should not be bought by the user. In order for it to work, it must be gifted to a rider from a loved one or friend. According to legend, the bell is `activated ‘ by the gesture of good will.
  2. It should be attached to the lowest most forward part of the bike or trikes frame.
  3. When a Bike or Trike is sold, the bell should be removed. The Guardian bell is a gesture of kindness from a loved one or friend, so should be kept by the intended recipient.
  4. One Guardian bell is all a bike or trike will need.

Get your loved one or friend a guardian bell, to keep them safe on their travels.
